Yesterday, May 14, 2017, at about 6:15 a.m., CMPD officers responded to the 2000 block of Tustin Avenue regarding a hit and run traffic collision involving parked vehicles. Witnesses reported the driver got out of the car and fled on foot. Officers located the suspect nearby, Joshua Thomas Long, 34, Costa Mesa.

Further investigation revealed the vehicle was not registered to Long. The residence of the registered vehicle owner in the 200 block of Cabrillo Street had been burglarized but had yet to be reported. The loss was the vehicle and the ignition key. Evidence left behind at the burglary scene appeared to tie the hit and run suspect to the burglary and auto theft. Long was arrested and booked on suspicion of residential burglary, auto theft, and leaving the scene of a traffic collision.
