Detectives Recover $500,000 Worth of Stolen Property

In January and February 2017, CVS and Walgreens stores in Berkeley were robbed a total of five times.  Lengthy investigations have led to the identification of a theft/robbery series targeting CVS and Walgreens stores for cosmetics throughout the Bay Area by the same suspects.  On 2/6/17, four suspects were arrested in San Francisco after committing another crime against Walgreens in that city. Three of the four suspects have since been charged with 29 counts of crimes in Alameda County including the 5 robberies in Berkeley.

A collaborative investigation by the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office Crime Strategies Unit, the San Francisco Police Department, the Organized Retail Crime Task Force that includes CVS, Walgreens and JC Penny investigators and the Berkeley Police Department, has led to the identification of Rosa Jimenez as the person who was buying the stolen property from the suspects. An arrest warrant was obtained for Rosa Jimenez along with a search warrant for her residence.

On 5/10/17, Detectives served the warrant at Jimenez’s residence on the 2000 block of San Leandro Boulevard in San Leandro and a nearby storage unit.   At the residence, officers contacted Rosa Jimenez and her boyfriend, Enrique Rodriguez.  A large amount of stolen cosmetics and other items were located.  Some of the property still had CVS and Walgreen stickers on the items. These stolen items police recovered are projected to be worth approximately $500,000.

Rosa Jimenez, 43 years old, and Enrique Rodriguez, 50 years old, are both residents of San Leandro.  They were arrested for receiving stolen goods (PC 496) and accessory to a felony (PC 32) and were booked into the Berkeley City Jail.
