LASD Malibu Lost Hills Deputies Rescue Dog During Condo Complex Fire

Although medals aren't generally given out for heroism when it comes to pets, that does not mean that our Deputy Sheriff's don't go above and beyond to save a life - even if it's a furry little critter with four legs.

On Tuesday, May 9th, at approximately 9:00 am, deputies from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station and firefighters from the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the 23900 block of Civic Center Way in Malibu for a residential fire. Fortunately, firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire to only one unit and no injuries were reported. Deputies safely evacuated the ten neighboring residents.

Malibu/Lost Hills Station Deputies Matt Brantley (left) and Tracy Koerner (right) did save a small Dachshund after rushing into an adjacent apartment to save the very scared pup, who had ran under its owner's bed before the smoke overtook the apartment.

Pictured are our brave rescuers, the dog's owner Sunshine Tutt and her little Dachshund.

There was one dog who was unfortunately lost in one of the other adjacent units, due to the great amount of smoke in the building. Even with that, Deputy Koerner and the Fire Department did make every attempt to save the dogs life. The owner had stepped out to run an errand, and unfortunately the rescuers did not know of the dog being inside the condo.

Because of these deputies quick thinking abilities, professionalism, and passion, a pet's life was saved!
