Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office Hosts Bias/Crime Incident Training

Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III, and Chief of Detectives John J. Kuczynski announced that the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office and Prevention Resources Inc. hosted the Bias Crime/Incident Training for Community Partners on May 4th at the Hunterdon Central High School.

The training was presented by the Attorney General’s Office, the New Jersey Division of the Criminal Justice, the County Prosecutor’s Association of New Jersey, the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police, and the New Jersey Bias Crime Officers Association.

Lesley Gabel of Prevention Resources stated, “The tools and insight provided at this event enhances the goals of our Safe Communities Coalition in creating a safer and healthier community, with a core message of understanding and tolerance. We are proud supporters of Law Enforcement and all those involved in reducing Bias Crime."

Over 70 people attended the seminar that covered how to Recognize, Respond to and Report a Bias Crime or Incident. The attendees included, law enforcement officers, educators, community leaders, faith based leaders, and interested community members. The course focused on identifying bias incidents on a local level, understanding the difference between a bias crime and bias incident, and the role of community outreach.

Prosecutor Kearns added, “I would like to thank the Attorney General’s Office, Warren County Prosecutor Richard T. Burke, Mercer County Prosecutor Angela J. Onofrio, Assistant Attorney General Phillip G. Aronow, and Assistant Attorney General Philip Freeman for their attendance and participation in this valuable training. I would also like to thank Hunterdon Central High School for their hospitality and providing space for us to host the event.”
