Cinco de Mayo DUI Patrols

Cinco de Mayo is a time to celebrate. While most people will be responsible, some will make a bad decision by drinking and driving and putting people's lives in danger.

To protect the community from impaired drivers, the Sheriff's Department will be adding extra DUI patrols across San Diego County on Friday, May 5th.

Sheriff's Deputies will also be holding a DUI checkpoint in the City of Vista on the same day.

Deputies arrested five drivers on suspicion of DUI on Cinco de Mayo in 2016. Five drivers were arrested by the Sheriff's Department for drinking and driving on the same day in 2015. Deputies arrested four drivers on Cinco de Mayo in 2014.

"You will go to jail if you are caught drinking and driving," said Sheriff Bill Gore. "Remember: Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving."

Funding for the DUI patrols is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
