Sketch Released of Stabbing Suspect

Berkeley Police Homicide Detectives are asking for the community’s assistance in identifying the person in this sketch.  On 4-28-17, at 7:47pm, the Berkeley Police Department received a call of a stabbing on the 800 block of San Diego Road, by John Hinkel Park in north Berkeley.  The male victim was near his home while out on a walk when the suspect approached him and stabbed him in the abdomen.  There was no robbery attempt and the stabbing appeared to be without provocation.  The victim did not know the suspect and the stabbing appeared to be random.  The victim was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.  The suspect was described as a white male adult, 35-45 yrs, 5’10” to 6’0”, 160-170 lbs, with sandy colored hair, several days of facial hair growth, wearing light colored clothing and a black backpack.  The suspect was last seen leaving on foot in an unknown direction. Officers conducted an extensive check of neighborhood roads, parks, and yards but were unable to locate the suspect.

Please contact the Homicide Detail at (510) 981-5741.  Detectives are also asking for surveillance camera footage from anyone who lives within a half mile radius of the incident.
