Two Guns in Two Days for Pro-Active Patrol Officer

On April 28, 2017 at approximately 10:13pm, a Berkeley Police Patrol Officer stopped a Lexus in the area of San Pablo Avenue and Carleton Street for an equipment violation.  During a search of the car, unrelated to the equipment violation, the officer found a loaded .357 revolver, concealed on the driver’s floorboard.

The officer arrested the driver, identified as Walter Green 32, of Berkeley, for Carrying a Concealed Firearm and Carrying a Loaded Firearm in Public.  Further investigation showed that the firearm was reported as stolen so Green was also booked for Possession of Stolen Property at the City of Berkeley Jail.

On April 29, 2017 at approximately 11:01pm, the same officer stopped a vehicle for expired registration.  During a subsequent search of the vehicle, the officer discovered a loaded and concealed pistol inside of a backpack on the front passenger seat. Additionally, narcotics were found in the vehicle.  The driver was arrested for Carrying a Concealed Firearm and Carrying a Loaded Firearm in Public.

The driver has been identified as Lamar Cotton 32, of Richmond.  The investigating officer conducted a records check of Cotton’s criminal history and learned that he was a convicted felon.  In addition to the charges above, Cotton was booked for being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

The Berkeley Police Department takes great pride in our ongoing efforts to take illegally possessed firearms off the streets and help make our community a safer place.
