BPD Seeks Community's Assistance to Identify Stabbing Suspect

On 4-28-17, at 7:47pm, the Berkeley Police Department received a call of a stabbing on the 800 block of San Diego Road, by John Hinkel Park in north Berkeley.  The male victim was near his home while out on a walk when the suspect approached him and stabbed him in the abdomen.  There was no robbery attempt and the stabbing appeared to be without provocation.  The victim did not know the suspect and the stabbing appeared to be random.  The victim was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.  The suspect was described as a white male adult in his 30’s with sandy colored hair, several days of facial hair growth, wearing light colored clothing and a black backpack.  The suspect was last seen leaving on foot in an unknown direction. Officers conducted an extensive area check of area roads, parks, and yards but were unable to locate the suspect.

Detectives are actively investigating this case and are asking for any assistance from the community. In particular, anyone who has a camera surveillance system who lives within a half mile radius of this incident is asked to contact the Homicide Detail at 510-981-5741
