The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

April 27th

0912 Hours: Officer Warren contacted and arrested a 38 year old transient male for his outstanding warrant on the 7200 block of Thornton Avenue. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

1608 Hours: Officer Warren arrested a 31 year old transient female in the Police Department lobby who self-surrendered on her outstanding warrant. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

2017 Hours: Officers responded to a disturbance on Noel Avenue at Leon Street. Officer Mapes arrested a 27 year old transient male for felony battery and probation violation. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

2042 Hours: Officer Allum responded the area of Jarvis Avenue on a report of cars racing and screeching their tires. Officer Allum cited two drivers on Dumbarton Circle (Fremont) for Speed Contest violation. One vehicle was towed from the scene because the driver was unlicensed.

2226 Hours: Officer Jackman contacted and arrested a 51 year old Newark male for possession of drug paraphernalia during a probation search on the 6300 block of Rockrose Drive. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

0148 Hours: Officers responded to Carter Avenue next to the railroad tracks on a report of an auto burglary on progress. Officer Slavazza contacted and arrested a 19 year old Newark male for grand theft. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

April 28th

1748 Officer Rivas investigated a hit and run accident on Alpenrose Court at Mowry Avenue.

1823 Hours: Officer Cervantes investigated a minor injury collision on Ramsgate Drive at Newcastle Court.

2156 Hours: Officer Wang investigated an attempted residential burglary on the 36500 block of Cedar Boulevard.

0009 Hours: Officer Khairy conducted a routine traffic stop on a vehicle and contacted the occupants, a 44 year old male and a 55 year old male, both from Newark. During a probation search of the vehicle Officer Khairy located a lock picking device. Both suspects were issued a citation for possession of burglary tools and released at the scene.

April 29th

0906 Hours: Officer Hogan investigated a residential burglary / stolen motorcycle on the 36200 block of Brighton Court. The stolen motorcycle is a red 2012 Honda Rebel (CA license # 22H3057).

1003 Hours: Officer Hogan investigated an auto burglary at the Double Tree Hotel, 39900 Balentine Drive. The loss is a purse containing cash and credit cards.

1539 Hours: Officer Jackman contacted and arrested a 31 year old transient male for possession of a controlled substance at a homeless encampment on Highway 84 near Highway 880. The suspect was issued a citation and released at the scene.

1752 hours: Officer Wang responded to Macy’s, NewPark Mall for a shoplifter in custody. A 20 year old Newark male was issued a citation and released at the scene.

2014 hours: Officer Simon contacted and arrested a 23 year old Newark male for parole violation on the 36700 block of Port Sailwood Drive. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

2257 hours: Officer Wang contacted and arrested a 37 year old Newark male for battery on the 6900 block of Jarvis Avenue. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

0103 hours: Officer Pacheco contacted and arrested a 25 year old Fremont male for his outstanding warrant on the 3900 block of Pelton Terrace. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

April 30th

0652 Hours: Officer Hogan investigated the theft of a purse from Starbucks, 35040 Newark Boulevard.

0816 Hours: Officer Musantry investigated the theft of two vehicles on the 36100 block of Toulouse Street. A black 2001 Mercedes C240 (CA License # 4TIB691) and a blue 1996 Chevy Tahoe (CA License # 7TZZ951) were stolen overnight.

0855 Hours: Officer Hogan investigated a stolen gray 2004 Toyota Camry (CA License #5GPE557) on the 7200 block of Thornton Avenue.

1032 Hours: Officer Nobbe contacted and arrested a 23 year old Newark male for disorderly conduct / drunk in public on the 6600 block of Normandy Drive. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1357 Hours: Officer Hogan investigated a hit and run accident at the Silliman Center, 6800 Mowry Avenue. The investigation is ongoing.

1920 Hours: Officer Wang accepted a shoplifter in custody for theft from Macy’s, Newpark Mall. A 24 year old Oakland female was issued a citation and released.

2103 Hours: Officers responded to an auto accident on Thornton Avenue at Mayhews Landing Road. Officer Pacheco contacted and arrested a 29 year old Newark male for felony driving under the influence. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail. The driver of the victim vehicle was transported to a local hospital for observation.

2321 Hours: Officers responded to a report of vehicles racing near Gateway Boulevard. Officers located the vehicles on Campus Court in Fremont. An 18 year old male and a 20 year old male from Castro Valley were cited for reckless driving and their vehicles were impounded for 30 days.
