The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

April 25th

0416 Hours: Officer Herbert investigated an auto burglary on the 37100 block of Spruce Street.The loss is miscellaneous power tools.

0444 Hours: Officer Herbert investigated an auto burglary on the 7200 block of Carter Street. The loss is a backpack and tools.

0712 Hours: Officer Slavazza contacted and arrested a 36 year old Newark male for his outstanding warrants during a warrant service on the 6700 block of George Avenue. The suspect was issued a citation and released at the scene.

1350 Hours: During a security check of the Lake Overpass at Highway 84, Officer Slavazza contacted and arrested a 31 year old Hayward female for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

1536 Hours: During a pedestrian stop at Sycamore Street and the railroad tracks, Officer Jackman contacted and arrested a 38 year old Newark male for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

1734 Hours: Officer Mapes investigated an auto burglary on the 37000 block of St. Christopher Street. The loss is construction tools.

1810 Hours: Officers and R.A.V.E.N. Volunteers responded to a motorcycle and pedestrian collision in the 35200 block of Newark Boulevard. It appears that a pedestrian was crossing Newark Blvd when he was struck by a motorcyclist who was travelling northbound on Newark Blvd. The motorcyclist fled from the collision, leaving his motorcycle at the scene, but witnesses notified arriving officers that he was sitting inside a nearby McDonald’s Restaurant. The motorcyclist was arrested and medically cleared at a local hospital. He was later booked into the Santa Rita Jail for felony driving under the influence and felony hit and run. The critically injured pedestrian was transported to a local trauma center where he is being treated. This incident is currently under investigation by the Newark Police Traffic Unit, witnesses are asked to call Sgt Ray Hoppe at 510-578-4951.

1848 Hours: Officer Mapes investigated an auto burglary on the 36700 block of Silk Court. The loss is tools.

1929 Hours: Officer Mavrakis investigated a residential burglary on the 6200 block of Jarvis Avenue. The loss is jewelry.
