Indianapolis, IN- An awards program was held this afternoon at the Indiana Government Center for Indiana State Police employees. During the ceremony, Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas G. Carter and his primary staff, recognized Officer Megan Imel for her work and dedication.
 
Officer Imel was bestowed the Indiana State Police Capitol Police Section Officer of the Year award.
 
This award is presented to the Capitol Police officer who inspires others to serve in a manner that significantly exceeds expectations. Performance includes outstanding efforts in the areas of criminal and traffic enforcement, Homeless Outreach Programs, and Field Training Officer duties. The Capitol Police Officer of the year has exemplified strength of character, a strong work ethic, and an unsurpassed level of integrity that is the embodiment of being a Capitol Police Section Officer.
 
Officer Imel is a Field Training Officer as well as an instructor in the “Below 100” training course. She has attended the Defensive Tactics Instructors Course and the Training Instructor Development School.
 
Officer Imel plays a integrate part in the selection of recruits for the Capitol Police Section by participating in both the physical agility testing process and serving as a member of the oral interview board.
 
In addition to her daily responsibilities, Officer Imel serves on the Crises Intervention Team and performs Public Information duties as requested.
 
Imel is a 4 year veteran of the Indiana State Police Capitol Police Section. She resides with her husband Ryan, also a Capitol Police Officer, in Johnson County.
