Police Blotter April 3rd through April 10th

April 3rd

Residential burglary – 6400 block of Schmidt Ln:
Between 1200 and 1700 hours, an unknown suspect entered the shared garage and stole golf clubs, gym bag, and baby stroller.

Warrant arrest – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza:
At 1800 hours, an officer conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested a 21-year-old Richmond woman for an outstanding warrant. The woman was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Public Intoxication – San Pablo Ave. / Fairmount Ave:
At 1852 hours, an officer located a 54-year-old Richmond man and determined he was extremely intoxicated and unable to care for himself. The man was arrested, booked, and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Shoplifting – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza:
At 2217 hours, and officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 55-year-old transient man for stealing merchandise from the business. The man was issued a citation in the field.

April 4th

Homicide – 7400 block of Park Vista Dr:
On Monday, April 3rd at approximately 3:45 pm, El Cerrito Police patrol officers were dispatched to a residence in the 7400 block of Park Vista. A caller reported he arrived at the home to check on a coworker who had not arrived for work. Officers responded and found one subject inside the house dead from a gunshot wound. A second subject, a 50-year-old male from American Canyon, was found with what appeared to be a self inflicted gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital.

April 5th

Methamphetamine Possession - Blake St. / BART Path:
At 1321 hours, an officer contacted a 33-year-old transient male. During a search, the subject was found to be in possession of 2 grams of suspected methamphetamine. He was booked and cite released.

Stolen Auto (Recovery) - Lincoln Ave. / Kearney St:
At 0543 hours, an officer received a Lojack activation and tracked a stolen 1997 Mercedes E420 to this location. It was located unoccupied and recovered.

Auto Burglary - 3400 block of Belmont Ave:
At 1022 hours, an officer noticed a parked Subaru with a shattered window. The vehicle was broken into sometime over night.

Warrant Arrest - 11450 San Pablo Ave:
At 1354 hours, an Officer contacted a 61-year-old Richmond man during an unwanted subject call. He had a misdemeanor warrant for his arrest. He was field cited and released.

Vehicle theft – Cypress Ave. / S. 56th St:
Between 0620 and 1900 hours, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 1998 Nissan Maxima.

Warrant arrest, Possession of a controlled substance, Possession of drug paraphernalia – San Pablo Ave. / Carlson Blvd:
At 1828 hours, an officer conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested a 44-year-old Richmond man for an outstanding warrant. During a search, the officer located methamphetamine and a glass smoking pipe. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

April 6th

Auto Burglary- 900 Block of Avis Dr:
An officer reported an unknown suspect shattered the front right window of the victim’s vehicle and removed property. The theft occurred in between 1245-1305 hours.

Stolen Vehicle- 1700 Block of Walnut St:
An officer reported an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 1998 4-door silver Acura Integra. The theft occurred in between 4/5@1800- 4/6@1355 hours.

Warrant arrest – 6060 Central Ave.:
At 1835 hours, an officer conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested a 35-year-old transient woman for an outstanding warrant. The woman was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Vandalism to vehicle, Auto burglary – 6700 block of Donal Ave:
Between 0330 and 0349 hours, an unknown suspect shattered 5 vehicle windows in the area. Some of the vehicles were ransacked while others were not. A passerby saw two suspects and followed them from the scene. The suspects were able to evade the witness and were gone prior to police arrival.

April 7th

Vandalism – 500 block Colusa Ave:
Sometime overnight an unknown suspect broke the driver side window of the victim’s vehicle. There was no loss reported.

Sometime overnight an unknown suspect broke the driver side window of the victim’s vehicle. There was no loss reported.

Vandalism – 500 block Colusa Ave:
Sometime overnight an unknown suspect broke the left rear window of the victim’s vehicle. There was no loss reported.

Vandalism – 400 block Richmond St:
Sometime overnight an unknown suspect broke the rear window of the victim’s vehicle. There was no loss reported.

Vandalism – San Pablo Ave / Cutting Blvd:
At about 0950 hours, the victim was coming to a stop at the red light on westbound Cutting Blvd at San Pablo Ave. A 22 year old male was walking across the street against the “Don’t Walk” and became scared because he thought the driver was going to hit him while he was in the crosswalk and an argument ensued. The 22-year- old male kicked the victim’s car causing damage. The damage consisted of several large dents. The man was placed under citizen arrest cite released in the field.

Shoplifting - 2000 El Cerrito Plaza:
At 1821 hours a theft of clothing from the business occurred. The suspect was described as a black male adult, short, approx. 30 years old, wearing a black puffy jacket, black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a blue beanie. The suspect placed clothing in a bag and fled the store on foot.

Robbery/Narcotics Possession- 11450 San Pablo Ave.:
At 1909 hours an officer was flagged down in regard to a physical fight in front of Safeway. Upon arrival a 40-year-old Richmond man was being detained by citizens. It was determined that the man had attempted to steal a Safeway employee’s cellular telephone. The employee attempted to stop the man and a fight ensued. No injuries were sustained by the man or the victim. It was also determined that the man was in possession of methamphetamine and cocaine. The man was booked into County Jail.

Grand Theft- 3020 El Cerrito Plaza:
At 1947 hours a theft of cellular telephones from the business occurred. Three suspects, all described as black male adults in their 20’s, entered the store and each took a cellular telephone and fled on foot towards BART.

DUI - San Pablo Ave./Columbia Ave.:
At 0151 hours an officer made a traffic stop and arrested a 31-year-old El Cerrito man for drunk driving. The subject was booked and released on a citation.

April 8th

Stolen Vehicle – 1900 block Key Blvd:
Between 4/7/17 at 2100 hours and 4/8/17 at 1245 hours, and unknown suspect stole the victim’s 1996 Honda Accord.

Vandalism – 800 block Lexington Ave:
Between 4/7/17 at 2100 hours and 4/8/17 at 1100 hours, an unknown suspect broke the front right window of the victim’s 2015 Toyota Camry.

Public Intoxication – Pic N Pac, 10012 San Pablo Ave:
At 1633 hours, an officer responded to an unwanted subject and arrested a 40 year old man from Concord for public intoxication. The man was booked into county jail.

Warrant Arrest- Potrero Ave. / S. 56th St.:
At 1902 hours an officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested a 40-year-old San Francisco woman for a misdemeanor warrant. The subject was booked into County Jail.

Warrant Arrest- San Pablo Ave. / Knott Ave.:
At 2152 hours an officer conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested a 39 year old Transient male for a misdemeanor warrant. The subject was cite released.

April 9th

Possess Drug Paraphernalia, Driving while Suspended – Cutting Blvd / S. 49th Street:
At 0717 hours, an officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested a 36-year-old Richmond man for possession of a meth pipe and driving on a suspended driver license. He was booked at the ECPD and released on a citation.

Disturbing the Peace – 3020 El Cerrito Plaza:
At 1445 hours, Officers responded to a suspicious person harassing patrons at several shops in the Plaza. The 28-year-old male subject from Richmond was finally located causing problems at Sprint. He was swearing, spitting, and making threats towards various persons and arrested. He was booked at the ECPD and released on a citation.

Auto Burglary-11344 San Pablo Ave:
Between 2000 and 2100 hrs. and unknown suspect broke the front passenger window of the victim vehicle and stole a black shoulder bag and make-up.

Warrant Arrest- Wall Ave. / Kearney St.:
At 2141 hours an officer conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested a 27-year-old transient male for a misdemeanor warrant. The subject was booked into county jail.

Grand Theft- San Pablo Ave. / San Jose Ave.:
At 2156 hours a victim reported the theft of her purse. The victim stated she stopped her vehicle to check on a flat tire and an unknown suspect approached, opened her unlocked front passenger door and stole her purse from the seat. The suspect fled the area on foot. The suspect was described as a BMA, wearing a black jacket and a black hat (no further description).

Warrant arrest- 11965 San Pablo Ave:
At 0237 hours an officer conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested a 40 year old El Cerrito man for a misdemeanor warrant. The subject was cite released.

Robbery- 11687 San Pablo Avenue:
At 0523 hours officers were dispatched to a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred. It was determined that the suspect entered the store, displayed a handgun and demanded money and cigarettes. The suspect fled the store on foot. The suspect was described as a white female adult, wearing a black shirt, black jeans, and a black bandana.

April 10th

Vandalism – Ellis Eye, 6500 Fairmount Ave:
Between 0600 and 0620 hours, and unknown suspect threw a rock through the front window of the business.

Battery on a Peace Officer – Fairmont Ave / Liberty St:
At 1337 hours, an officer responded to a suspicious person call at the El Cerrito Plaza. Patrons reported a man harassing customers, pushing customers, attempting to steal a purse and boxes of merchandise. An officer located a 19-year-old man from Vacaville and detained him to investigate. During the detention, the man struck the officer in the face once with a closed fist, causing a bloody lip. He was arrested, booked at the ECPD and then transported to MDF.

Booby Trap – Stege Sanitary, 7500 Schmidt Lane:
Sometime over the weekend and unknown suspect strategically placed 88 uncapped syringes into a plastic bag commonly used to protect newspapers and placed the bag with the other newspapers which were delivered over the weekend. The bag and the way the needles were placed was clearly an attempt at camouflaging the device. The employee poked himself with the needles when he collected the bag with the other newspapers.

Public Intoxication – Safeway, 11450 San Pablo Ave:
At 1559 hours, Officers responded to an unwanted subject who had been in the deli area for over two hours and bothering customers. Officers contacted a 26-year-old man from Richmond who was heavily intoxicated. He was arrested and booked at MDF.

Public Intoxication- 11861 San Pablo Ave.:
At 1922 hours officers responded to a report of a subject down in the parking lot. Officers contacted a 48-year-old Richmond man who was heavily intoxicated. The subject was arrested and booked into county jail.

Shoplifting/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia- 1000 El Cerrito Plaza:
At 2124 hours, while clearing another detail, an officer saw a 35-year-old Oakland man shoplifting. The subject was also found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. The subject was arrested and booked into county jail.

Public Intoxication- 2300 Block Carquinez Ave.:
At 2356 hours officers were dispatched to the report of a heavily intoxicated subject in the area. Upon arrival officers contacted a 29-year-old Richmond man. The subject was arrested and booked into county jail.
