The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

April 6th

1403 Hours: Officer Allum investigated an auto vs pedestrian injury accident at NewPark Mall. The pedestrian was transported with non-life threatening injuries to a local hospital.

1439 Hours: Community Service Officer Verandes recovered a red 1992 Honda Accord on the 35800 block of Tozier Street which had been reported stolen out of Union City.

1516 Hours: Officer Rivas investigated a long term employee theft/embezzlement case in which the employee stole $44,000 over the last two years.

The night shift responded to 48 calls for downed trees across residential and main roadways as well as downed power lines. Several vehicles were damaged from falling trees as well as a few residences.

April 7th

The morning shift responded to numerous storm related calls throughout the day.

1104 Hours: Officer Warren investigated an auto burglary on the 5300 block of Port Sailwood Drive. The loss is construction tools valued at $3,200.00

1528 Hours: Officer Rivas investigated the theft of a black, 1999 GMC Yukon (CA License #4ZVD219) on the 7900 block of Thornton Avenue.

April 8th

0901 Hours: Officer Musantry investigated the vandalism of a 2002 Cadillac Escalade on the 37100 block of Elm Avenue.

1040 Hours: Officer Hogan investigated an auto burglary at the Comfort Inn, 5977 Mowry Avenue. The loss is miscellaneous tools and equipment.

1525 Hours: Officer Jackman investigated an auto burglary on the 36300 block of Cotton Avenue. The loss is a GPS unit, paycheck and miscellaneous paperwork.

1850 Hours: Officer Simon investigated a clothing theft at Forever 21, NewPark Mall. The loss was four shopping totes filled with clothing.

1926 Hours: Officer Wang investigated a vehicle vandalism case on the 36900 block of Cherry Street. There are no suspects at this time.

2008 Hours: Officer Wang investigated the “Grab and Run” theft of approximately $4,600 dollars’ worth of merchandise from Victoria’s Secret, NewPark Mall.

2239 Hours: Officer Simon contacted and arrested a 37 year old Newark male on his outstanding warrant. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

0102 Hours: Officer Losier contacted and arrested a 40 year old Newark male during a pedestrian stop at the Shell Gas Station, 5489 Thornton Avenue. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail and charged with being drunk in public, possession of a controlled substance and concealing evidence.

April 9th

0915 Hours: Officer Hogan contacted and arrested a 45 year old Newark male for his three outstanding warrants. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

0952 Hours: Officer Germano investigated a stolen red 1997 Honda Civic (CA License # 3VDX328) on the 6200 block of Joaquin Murieta Avenue.

1148 Hours: Officer Mavrakis investigated a vehicle burglary on the 37000 block of Magnolia Street. The loss is miscellaneous tools.

1302 Hours: Officer Musantry investigated the vandalism of a vehicle on the 5600 block of John Muir Drive. There is no suspect information at this time.

1422 Hours: Officer Mavrakis investigated the theft of 100 “Dream Angle” bras from Victoria’s Secret, NewPark Mall.

1447 Hours: Officer Mavrakis investigated the vandalism of a vehicle on the 37000 block of Sycamore Street.

1929 Hours: Officers responded to Safeway, 5877 Jarvis Avenue and arrested a 30 year old Newark male for violating a restraining order and for being a parolee in possession of burglary tools. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

2319 Hours: Officer Simon investigated an attempted armed robbery in the O’Sullivan’s parking lot, 5660 Thornton Avenue.

0148 Hours: Sergeant Kovach investigated the shooting out of a window of an unoccupied car on the 6200 block of Broadway Avenue. The investigation is ongoing.

0543 Hours: Officer Khairy investigated a stolen green 1992 Honda Accord (CA License #2ZED032) on the 37100 block of Locust Street.
