Flood Insurance Workshop Scheduled for April 11th
for Brigantine Property Owners

Brigantine, New Jersey – A free workshop on flood insurance will be held at the Brigantine Community Center on Tuesday, April 11th from 6 pm to 8 pm.
Over 7,000 property owners in Brigantine have Federal flood insurance policies. These policies insure over $1.6 billion worth of property and the premiums paid in 2016 exceeded $4.8 million.
The first part of the workshop will feature updates on the new laws and regulations effecting flood insurance, ways to reduce your flood insurance premiums and grants for home elevations. The second part will include a one-on-one review of your current flood insurance policy. Local insurance brokers will be available to assist home owners.
Brigantine property owners are asked to bring their flood elevation certificate and current flood insurance policy. A Certified Floodplain Manager will review this information with you to determine if you can lower the price of the policy.
The City is working to help residents reduce flood insurance cost. This workshop is just one step in the process.
The City has also been working with representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to increase the flood insurance discount provided to property owners by participating in the Community Rating System (CRS) program. Brigantine property owners currently enjoy a 25 percent discount on flood insurance. The discount is based on the total number of points that the City earns. A community accrues points to improve its CRS Class rating and receive increasingly higher discounts. Points are awarded for engaging in any of 19 creditable activities, organized under four categories: public information, mapping and regulations, flood damage reduction, warning and response.
