Vehicle Collision Leads to Gas Leak: Traffic Impacted
On 4/4/17 at approximately 12:57pm, Berkeley Police and Fire responded to single car versus fixed object collision near the intersection of San Pablo and Ashby Avenues. The driver of the vehicle has been transported to a local hosptial with unknown injuries.
Immediately following the collision, people in the area were struck by the strong smell of gas. A gas line was damaged as a result of the collision.
Berkeley Police evacuated residents from the 1200 block of Ashby Avenue and now the 1200 block of Carrison Street. Community members are urged to stay away from the affected area.
Vehicle and pedestrian traffic has been shut down two blocks in each direction of San Pablo and Ashby Avenues. PG&E crews are on scene working to secure the leak but we anticipate traffic remaining shut down for an extended period of time.
