Tip Leads to Three Arrests & Guns Recovered

On 3/23/17 at 5:53pm, a concerned community member called to report a fist fight between two young male adults with two others watching in the area of California and Ward Streets.  The community member then advised dispatch that the two watching were carrying firearms.

A responding officer who was driving on California approaching Oregon Streets saw three black males walking south. One of the subjects (later identified as Abrar Aomer 19, of Berkeley) appeared to have an injury to his face consistent with having just been in a fight. The officer gave verbal orders for all three to stop, but they refused to comply. Aomer and the second subject, later identified as Judah Pree 19, of Berkeley, finally submitted to the Officer’s commands while the third suspect was known to the officer as Reginald Jackson 20, of Berkeley fled on foot.

The reporting party identified Aomer as one of the subjects involved in the fight and identified Pree as one of the subjects who had a firearm.
One of the Officers traced the path taken by Aomer, Pree and Jackson and found a black handgun, with a 30-round magazine in the bushes on the 2800 block of California Street.  A review of some surveillance camera footage in the area showed Pree removing something from his waistband and dumping it shortly before he was detained by Police.  Pree later admitted that he had discarded a gun in those bushes. Aomer and Pree were arrested for resisting arrest and illegal firearm possession.

A computer check showed that Pree was out on bail for a felony gun case.  Pree was booked for carrying a loaded firearm in public, carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a high capacity magazine, and an enhancement for committing a felony while out on bail.

On 03-23-17 officers located an additional firearm in some bushes close to where the other firearm was located.

On the morning of 03-30-17, Detectives arrested Reginald Jackson on the 2900 block of Sacramento Street and a search warrant was served at Jackson’s home.  During questioning Jackson admitted to being in the company of Aomer and Pree and the possessing one of the handgun. He also said he and his friends were fired on at the Sacramento Street Market on 12-25-17.

Jackson was booked for carrying a loaded firearm in public, a prohibited person owning/possessing a firearm and ammunition, and an enhancement for committing a felony while out on bail.
The Berkeley Police Department takes great pride in our ongoing efforts to take illegally possessed firearms off the streets and the collaborative efforts of our Officers, Dispatchers and Community.
