Car Stop Leads to Gun Arrest

On March 23, 2017 at approximately 12:40pm, a Berkeley Officer and his recruit stopped a black Mercedes at College Avenue and Parker Street, for a number of vehicle code violations.  The driver was identified as by his California Driver’s License as Michael Bishop 52, of Berkeley.  A computer check revealed that he was driving on a suspended driver’s license.  When Bishop was searched, a loaded and concealed revolver was found in his pocket.   The revolver was loaded with live rounds and spent casings.

Bishop was arrested for carrying a loaded firearm in public, carrying a loaded unregistered firearm in public, carrying a concealed firearm in public, and driving on a suspended driver’s license.
The Berkeley Police Department takes great pride in our ongoing efforts to take illegally possessed firearms off the streets and help make our community a safer place.
