The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

March 23rd

0851 Hours: Officer Knutson contacted and arrested a 36 year old Union City male for his outstanding warrant, possession of a controlled substance and obstructing a Police Officer. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1321 Hours: Officer Rivas investigated a hit and run accident at NewPark Mall. The incident occurred after an attempted theft from Burlington Coat Factory as the suspect was fleeing the area. The investigation is ongoing.

1445 Hours: Officer’s Ackerman and Pacheco contacted and arrested a 34 year old Union City male on burglary and check fraud charges at the Check Center, 5710 Thornton Avenue. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

2026 Hours: Officer Horst contacted and arrested a 36 year old Newark male for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance while performing a security check at Pick N Pull, 7400 Mowry Avenue. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

2054 Hours: Officer Mapes contacted and arrested a 40 year old Hollister male while performing a warrant service at the EZ-8 Motel, 5555 Cedar Court. The suspect was issued a citation and released at the scene.

March 24th

0924 Hours: A citizen called 9-1-1 after witnessing an auto burglary in the Starbucks parking lot, 35040 Newark Boulevard. Responding Officers were unable to locate the suspect. The loss is a purse containing a large amount of cash.

0924 Hours: Officer Knutson contacted and arrested a 31 year old transient male for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and his outstanding warrant. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

2045 Hours: Officer Lopez contacted and arrested a 31 year old Merced female for a hit and run accident and driving under the influence on Cedar Boulevard at Mowry Avenue. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

2143 Hours: Community Service Officer Parks investigated a window smash auto burglary that occurred on the 6200 block of Jarvis Avenue. The loss is two backpacks and two laptop computers.

March 25th

1032 Hours: Officer Slavazza contacted and arrested a 36 year old Newark male for his outstanding warrant on Cherry Street at Graham Avenue. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

1106 Hours: Officer Taylor investigated a package theft and credit card fraud case on the 37800 block of Taro Terrace. The investigation is ongoing.

1140 Hours: Officer Germano contacted and arrested a 32 year old Newark male for his outstanding warrant. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1611 Hours: Officer Slavazza contacted and arrested a 44 year old Newark female for driving under the influence on Cedar Boulevard at Mowry Avenue. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

2032 Hours: Officer Khairy observed a 26 year old transient male walking with his girlfriend whom he is restrained from making contact with in the Rosemont Square shopping center, 35156 Newark Boulevard. The suspect was arrested for the restraining order violation and possession of methamphetamine and subsequently booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

2235 Hours: Officer Lopez investigated vandalism to the empty Orchard Supply building located at 5655 Jarvis Ave. Gang related graffiti was located.

2309 Hours: Officer Pacheco investigated a window smash auto burglary in the parking lot of HK Noodle, 6062 Mowry Avenue. While investigating the burglary two additional victim vehicles were located. Community Service Officer Parks responded to assist in the investigation and located a large amount of property dumped in the parking lot. The initial victim was able to identify some of his belongings. Additional follow up with other local agencies with active auto burglary cases is ongoing.

0206 Hours: Officer Khairy contacted and arrested a 25 year old Newark male for driving under the influence on Hyacinth Street. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

0356 Hours: Officer Losier investigated a window smash auto burglary at the Aloft Hotel, 8200 Gateway Boulevard. The loss is mirrors valued at $1,000.

March 26th

1308 Hours: Officer Musantry investigated a hit and run collision at the Aloft Hotel, 8200 Gateway Boulevard. There is no suspect information at this time.

1343 Hours: Officer Taylor investigated a hit and run collision at Burger King, 34943 Newark Boulevard. The incident is under investigation.

1402 Hours: Officer Germano arrested a 37 year old transient male who self-surrendered himself in the Police Department lobby. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1626 Hours: Community Service Officer Parks recovered a Ford F-350 on the 8100 block of Wells Avenue that had been reported stolen out of Fremont.

1800 Hours: Officer Pacheco investigated a theft under false pretense case where the victim was led to believe that her granddaughter was being held in an Ontario, Canada jail on a driving under the influence charge. The victim sent $500 via MoneyGram to the suspect believing that to be the bail amount.

1953 Hours: Officer Simon responded to a disturbance on 6304 Broadway Avenue. A 29 year old Newark male was contacted and arrested for his outstanding warrant. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

2234 Hours: Officer Khairy contacted and arrested a 47 year old Newark male for possession of a controlled substance in the parking lot of Bob’s Liquor, 7024 Jarvis Avenue. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

0321 Hours: Officer Pacheco investigated an incident where a male suspect brandished a knife after he was asked to leave the 7-11, 7288 Thornton Avenue. The investigation is ongoing. No one was injured in the incident.
