Advisory

Injury Collision on San Pablo Ave. at Moeser Ln.

UPDATE: SAN PABLO AVENUE IS NOW OPEN IN ALL DIRECTIONS FOR VEHICLE TRAFFIC.

At approximately 5:08pm the El Cerrito Police Department responded to an injury collision in the northbound direction of San Pablo Ave south of Moeser Ln. Initial reports were that a vehicle collided with a pedestrian. When officers arrived, they found one subject down in the #1 southbound lane of San Pablo Ave and three involved vehicles in the northbound lanes of San Pablo Ave.

Officers determined the person laying on San Pablo Ave was ejected from one of the involved vehicles. The ejected passenger was transported via air ambulance to a local trauma hospital. As officers continued their investigation, they noticed the objective symptoms of intoxication coming from the driver of the vehicle from which the passenger was ejected. Following a DUI investigation, the driver; a 20 year old male from San Pablo, was arrested and transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. San Pablo Ave. between Portola and Waldo Ln. was shut down for several hours. At the completion of this investigation, the case will be forwarded to the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office.

Drunk and drugged driving could lead to very serious consequences and in this case the ejected passenger suffered broken bones but will likely survive his injuries. Plan ahead and designate a sober driver for the evening.
