Double Digit Citations Issued During St. Patrick's Day Enforcement Efforts
On Friday, March 17, 2017, between 8:00pm and 1:30am, the Berkeley Police Department conducted a DUI/License checkpoint on Telegraph Avenue at Stuart Street. During this same period, numerous officers from the Berkeley Police (BPD), University of California Police (UCPD), and Agents from the Office of Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) conducted alcohol related enforcement operations throughout the city.
During the course of the checkpoint, the drivers' of 847 vehicles were contacted with the following results:
(23) Field Sobriety Tests were conducted
(2) subjects were arrested for DUI-alcohol
(1) subject was arrested for DUI-drugs
(2) citations/tows for suspended drivers licenses
(12) citations for various vehicle code violations
The cooperative efforts of BPD, UCPD, and ABC resulted in 64 arrests (all cited and released) for the following violations:
(24) Cited for Open Containers
(18) Cited for Use of Fake ID's
(19) Cited for Minor in Possession of Alcohol
(3) Cited for other Vehicle Code violations
(3) Businesses cited for Furnishing Alcohol to minors.
The Berkeley Police Department is grateful for the assistance provided by UCPD, ABC and the California Office of Traffic Safety in our efforts to reduce alcohol related incidents and reducing the number of impaired motorists on our roadway.
