SUMMARY:
On Wednesday, February 21, 2017, Yucaipa Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a commercial burglary at a local jewelry store. The investigation revealed that a male suspect used a hammer to shatter the glass to the front door and gain entry into the business during the middle of the night. The suspect then stole over a $1,000 worth of jewelry and fled the scene. DNA evidence located at the scene was processed and identified German Vargas as the suspect who committed the burglary.

On Monday, March13, 2017 Yucaipa Police Detectives located Vargas in the City of Indio and arrested him for PC 459 - Burglary.

Through investigation, it was determined that Vargas was responsible for several commercial burglaries throughout Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. Yucaipa Police Detectives collaborated with Detectives from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department – Palm Desert Station. On Thursday, March 16, 2017, Detectives from both departments served search warrants at Vargas’ residence in the City of Cathedral City, and also served a search warrant at the home of his wife, Griselda Trani, in Desert Hot Springs. As a result of those search warrants, additional evidence and narcotics were located.

Trani was arrested for PC 530.5- Identity Theft, and PC 273 a (a) – Child Endangerment. Both suspects were arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center. Vargas is being held on all of the above charges, in lieu $ 75,000 Bail. Trani is being held on her charges, in lieu of $100,000 Bail. Detectives are releasing photos of both suspects as they believe they may have been involved in other burglaries throughout the area.
