12pm Winter Storm Impact Report – Snow falling, Roads Hazardous

STORM ALERT
The storm continues to drop snow. Township plow crews are working but all roadways remain hazardous for driving.  The storm is expected to leave our area this afternoon and bring frigid temperatures into the area. One crash closed Route 130 south for a half an hour at 10am.  
South Brunswick Emergency Operations Center will be open and monitoring all the changing conditions. We will provide updates throughout the day on the storm’s impact on our community. Residents can expect updates on South Brunswick Nixle as well as our Twitter account @SoBrunswickPD.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK FORECAST -
Today: Freezing rain and sleet before 4pm, then a chance of snow, freezing rain, and sleet. The freezing rain and sleet could be heavy at times. High near 32. Breezy, with a north wind 22 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 43 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Tonight: A chance of snow, mainly before 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21. Northwest wind 11 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Wednesday: A slight chance of snow before 9am, then a chance of snow showers, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 30. Blustery, with a northwest wind 13 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible..

CLOSED / CANCELLED – TUESDAY
All schools and most businesses are closed.

TRAFFIC ISSUES
Roads remain hazardous throughout the Township.

One crash on Route 130 at Stults Road at 9:35am between a pickup truck and a State snowplow. The 45 year old pickup driver from Maryland ran into the rear of the snowplow. Route 130 south was closed for 30 minutes while the crash was cleared.

POWER OUTAGES
No outages at this time.

The freezing rain and sleet may cause some downed trees and power outages. Customers should report downed wires or power outages by calling PSE&G's Customer Service line at 1-800-436-PSEG.  Also, customers can report outages at www.pseg.com or by texting "OUT" to 4PSEG (47734). The utility's mobile-friendly website includes an "Outage Map" that is updated every 15 minutes and displays the location and status of power outages in PSE&G's service area.
