Old Saybrook Update

The Old Saybrook Office of Emergency Management would like to provide you with the following information concerning today’s winter weather event. - The State of Connecticut and the Town of Old Saybrook remain in a State of Emergency. - First Selectman Fortuna recently concluded a conference call with Governor Malloy and other Connecticut Municipalities. - The forecast for the remainder of the storm calls for moderate to heavy snow for the next hour or so until turning completely to freezing rain and rain. It will rain for a majority of the afternoon until changing back to snow for a period of time this evening. For the remainder of the day: - All municipal recreation areas – including the beaches - remain closed. - All municipal buildings with the exception of public safety facilities remain closed. - All sports and other extracurricular municipal and school district activities are cancelled for today and tonight. - A parking ban for all roads is still in effect. This means that no vehicles are allowed to be parked on any portion of a local or state road. The Causeway remains closed. - We are very pleased to report that there are currently no reported power outages in Old Saybrook. - We ask you to please remain home and off the roadways. Staying off the road will allow us to continue an aggressive snow and slush removal process. - Please check on your neighbors especially if they live alone or are elderly. - For residents that have fire hydrants on their properties, after your road is plowed, please make sure you clear around the fire hydrant to assist our volunteer fire department. - For our residents that have sidewalks in front of their homes or businesses, after your road is plowed please do your best to clear the sidewalk area. For residents that live on local and state roads - Rest assured, your road will be plowed today. Our Emergency Operations Center remains open and is allowing you direct access to our public safety officials manning the center through social media. Feel free to join the conversation on Facebook by going to the Old Saybrook Emergency Management or Police Department Page. As always, your public safety professionals stand at the ready to respond to assist you should you need us. A final message regarding this winter weather event will be delivered this evening at around 7:30 PM.
