Advisory

New Castle Police advise residents to prepare for the upcoming blizzard.

The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for this area.  A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions...making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If you must travel...have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded...stay with your vehicle.

In the event of life or property threatening emergencies, dial 911.

To report downed wires, road blockages and non-life-threatening issues, contact (914) 238-4422.  Treat all downed wires as if they are live. Be mindful that downed wires can be hidden from view by tree limbs, leaves or snow.

If your electric service goes out, call Con Ed directly at 1-800-75-CONED. Calling Con Ed directly enters your power loss into their computerized data base.  You can also report outages, view outages map and check outage status at www.conEd.com.   Calling the Police to report a power loss only serves to tie up emergency telephone lines and you will be referred to contact Con Ed directly.

Plan on not driving for at least tomorrow and the possibility of being stuck in your home for days.  This means having a supply of water, food, medication and whatever else you may need to outlast the storm.  New York State provides a full list of emergency supplies for your home and vehicles.

Please check on your neighbors who are frail, alone or may be in need of additional help.  Make sure they are prepared and stay safe during the storm.

The New Castle Police Department maintains a voluntary list of people who may require additional help and would like to be checked on during extreme weather.  If you or someone you know would like to be added to this list, call (914) 238-4422.
