MAJOR WINTER STORM MONDAY NIGHT INTO EARLY WEDNESDAY
Over a foot of snow possible

The South Brunswick Office of Emergency Management has received the latest forecast;

After several days of monitoring, guidance continues to suggest a powerful winter storm is on the way for the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Currently, we are favoring the storm developing just southeast of the Carolinas, combining with an upper level disturbance from the Midwest and strengthening rapidly as it pushes up the Eastern Seaboard. With cold air in place across the Northeast, expect snow to break out  late Monday night. During the day Tuesday, snow will become heavy at times, with snowfall rates of 1 - 2" per hour possible. Winds will be increasing thru the day, so blowing and drifting will be a concern with the potential for blizzard conditions.

As for amounts, our greatest risk to see a foot or more of snow, with the potential for two feet in the worst case scenario. However, this is still a changeable forecast, as a track just 50 miles further east could keep precipitation all snow on the coast and limit snow on the western side.  It should be noted, moderate coastal flooding will also be a concern. This storm is expected to wind down Tues evening in PA/NJ and points south and late Tuesday night northward into New England. However, numerous snow showers will likely remain thru the day
