Full Notification

On Friday, March 3, 2017, at 2:00 p.m., East Los Angeles Station deputies responded to a fatal traffic collision that occurred at Heliotrope Avenue and 59^th Place, City of Maywood.  When deputies arrived on scene, they observed several vehicles with collision damage and two male pedestrians, injured on the roadway. 

Deputies learned that the driver, who caused the collision, was being detained, by a City of Maywood employee, after he fled the collision scene on foot.

The injured pedestrians, a 28 year-old male and a 24 year-old male were transported by ambulance to a local hospital. 

The older male was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The other injured pedestrian was treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital.

The suspect, Leopoldo Acuna Leon, male Hispanic, 32 years-old, was arrested at the scene.  He was transported and booked at East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station.

On March 7, 2017, Suspect Leon was arraigned at the Metropolitan Courthouse for Murder, Felony Hit and Run, and Felony Driving Under the Influence.  He is being held without the possibility of bail.
