BTPD Charges Suspect with Assault by Auto for March 6th Collision at Route 130 and Neck Road

At approximately 10:19 PM on Monday, March 6, 2017, the Burlington Township Police Department responded to the area of Route 130 North and Neck Road for a serious motor vehicle collision. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the collision involved two vehicles, with multiple occupants being injured. Due to the seriousness of the collision, the Rt. 130 and Neck Road intersection was shut down, and traffic was temporarily diverted so that officers could conduct their investigation.

Responding officers determined that prior to the collision Matthew Campbell (19 y/o male from Florence, NJ) was operating a blue 2014 Chevrolet Cruz on Neck Road approaching the intersection with Route 130. Campbell failed to stop at the red light, entered the intersection and struck a red GMC Acadia travelling northbound on Route 130. Additionally, officers determined that Campbell was operating his vehicle while under the influence of CDS, specifically marijuana.

At the time of the collision, Campbellā€™s vehicle contained two additional occupants, one of which had to be extricated from the vehicle. Both of those occupants were transported to Lourdes Medical Center in Willingboro, NJ to be treated for neck/back pain. The operator of the red GMC Acadia that Campbell struck suffered a broken leg, and he was also transported to Lourdes Medical Center in Willingboro, NJ. Campbell did not receive any injuries.

Campbell was criminally charged with 3 counts of assault by auto, and he was also charged with numerous motor vehicle violations, to include driving while intoxicated/under the influence. After processing, Campbell was released on a summons pending his appearance in court.
