Suspected Thieves captured on home video surveillance cameras in San Luis Obispo

MEDIA RELEASE

WHAT: Thefts from vehicles

WHERE: 1500 block of Cucaracha, San Luis Obispo

WHEN: March 7, 2017

DEPARTMENT CONTACT: Lieutenant John Bledsoe

In the early morning hours on March 6th, 2017 residents in the 1500 block of Cucaracha in the City of San Luis Obispo reported several thefts from their unlocked vehicles. One of the homeowners on Cucaracha found video surveillance on their personal home video camera of two subjects in their driveway. One of the suspects in the video is seen looking into both vehicles in the driveway with the use of a flashlight.

The subject seen looking into the vehicles is described as a male, possibly white, in his 20’s with medium length hair. He is wearing a long sleeve possibly lighter colored zip-up jacket, baggy jeans, white high top Nike basketball style shoes, and a baseball cap on backwards. A second subject can be seen walking through the driveway and across the street away from the first subject. He can only be described as a male wearing dark colored clothing and carrying a flashlight.

Thefts from unlocked vehicles is a crime that has been increasing significantly in the City of San Luis Obispo, as well as in the State of California during the last couple of years. These criminals take advantage of the victims who leave their car doors unlocked and leave valuables in plain sight. The San Luis Obispo Police Department is asking for anyone with information regarding these crimes or the identity of these individuals to notify our department or Crime Stoppers at 549-STOP.
