The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.
March 2nd
0746 Hours: Officer Allum investigated a non-injury collision on Newark Boulevard at Thornton Avenue.
1134 Hours: Officer Posadas investigated an auto burglary on the 36900 Cherry Street. The loss is a radio, jacket, backpack and cash.
1201 Hours: Officer Ackerman contacted and arrested a 50 year old Newark female for her outstanding warrants. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.
1236 Hours: Officer Knutson investigated the theft of a white 2011 Interstate construction trailer (CA License # 4LE2195) from Emmett Construction, 37533 Enterprise Court.
1334 Hours: Officers responded to an armed robbery that had just occurred at the Shoe Palace, 1074 NewPark Mall. A 24 year old Fremont male entered the store and asked for 3 pairs of shoes. Upon the clerk bring up the shoes, the suspect pulled out a semi-automatic pistol and fled with the shoes to an awaiting vehicle occupied by a 23 year old male and a 22 year old male, both from Fremont. After a concerted effort by Officers and Detectives the suspects were taken into custody later in the day. All three suspects were booked into the Fremont Jail. The handgun used in the robbery was recovered and found to be a realistic looking plastic replica.
1624 Hours: Officer Fredstrom investigated a vehicle burglary on the 36500 block of Hafner Street. The loss was power tools.
2330 Hours: Officer Warren contacted and arrested a 34 year old Oakland male for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. The suspect was issued a citation and released.
0442 Hours: Officer Mapes investigated a Commercial Burglary at Game Stop, 5885 Jarvis Avenue.
March 3rd
1420 Hours: Officer Fredstrom investigated a single vehicle non-injury accident in the Rosemont Square Shopping Center parking lot, 35122 Newark Boulevard.
1600 Hours: Officer Fredstrom investigated a hit and run accident on Central Avenue at Cedar Boulevard.
2014 Hours: Community Service Officer Parks investigated two auto burglaries at Ninjo Castle, 39888 Balentine Drive. The loss is two bags of clothing, keys, three jackets and a backpack.
2057 Hours: Officer Pacheco investigated an auto burglary at the Lion Center, 39055 Cedar Boulevard. The loss was a work bag containing a hard drive and chargers.
2202 Hours: Officers responded to a disturbance on the 6200 block of Mayhews Landing Road. A 45 year old Newark male was arrested for battery, possession of a controlled substance, obstructing a Police Officer, probation violation and a restraining order violation. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.
0143 Hours: Officer Losier investigated a non-injury collision on Civic Terrace at Greenpoint Street. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and booked into the Fremont Jail.
0221 Hours: Officer Pacheco investigated a robbery on the 6300 Cotton Avenue where two known suspects were described. Officer Khairy and Officer Simon conducted surveillance at the suspect’s home on the 36900 block of Locust Street and subsequently arrested a 51 year old female and a 31 year old male, both from Newark. Both suspects were booked into the Fremont Jail.
0227 Hours: Officer Lopez investigated an attempted burglary of locked tool boxes in the back of a truck parked on the 7500 block of Snow Street. There was no loss, only damaged locks.
March 4th
0954 Hours: Officer Musantry contacted and arrested a 29 year old San Jose male for possession of drug paraphernalia. The suspect was issued a citation and released.
1045 Hours: Officer Slavazza contacted and arrested a 40 year old San Diego male for possession of a controlled substance. The suspect was issued a citation and released.
1733 Hours: Officer Hogan contacted and arrested a 41 year old Newark male on his two outstanding warrants. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.
2207 Hours: Community Service Officer Parks documented a serious dog bit incident where the victim, a house sitter on the 5300 block of Rockport Court was bitten by two dogs that were fighting. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
0301 Hours: Officer Simon investigated a hit and run collision that occurred on the 6500 block of Thornton Avenue.
0339 Hours: A citizen on Dairy Avenue reported that they heard glass breaking and car alarms from the area of Dairy Avenue and Cherry Street. Officer Khairy responded to the area and observed a 19 year old Newark male walking out of the bushes of the Bridgeport Condos toward Cherry Street carrying an arm full of miscellaneous gardening tools. Officer Losier located a work truck a short distance away in the parking lot the Bridgeport Condos that contained similar garden tools and many of the rear storage compartments were ajar. The suspect was arrested for prowling, theft, and being drunk in public and subsequently booked into the Santa Rita Jail.
March 5th
0638 Hours: Officers responded to an interrupted auto burglary on the 36500 block of Mulberry Street. Officer Hogan was first to arrive at the scene on Olive Street at George Avenue and contacted the two suspects. He ordered both males to stop and get on the ground and both suspects ran West on George Avenue. Officer Hogan pursued on foot and detained one suspect who had dropped a loaded handgun on the ground while attempting to escape. After a prolonged search, Officers Nobbe and Germano detained the second suspect on Mulberry Street. The suspects, a 20 year old Pittsburg male and a 20 year old Antioch male were booked into the Santa Rita Jail. A special thank you to Fremont PD for their help during this investigation and the use of K9 Laz.
1014 Hours: Officer Musantry contacted and arrested a 24 year old Newark male on his outstanding warrant. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.
1843 Hours: Community Service Officer Parks investigated a theft of a black 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche (CA license plate# 7F22671) from the Chuck E Cheese parking lot, 39839 Mowry School Road.
2016 Hours: Officer Pacheco arrested a 47 year old Newark male for a restraining order violation on the 5700 block of Dichondra Place. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.
2353 Hours: Community Service Officer Parks documented a hit and run collision that occurred on the 36600 block of Spruce Street.
