Newark Police arrest three adult males in connection to an armed robbery that occurred inside of the Shoe Palace, at NewPark Mall.

Newark, California (Friday, March 3, 2017)

Newark Police arrest three adult males in connection to an armed robbery that occurred inside of the Shoe Palace, located inside of Newpark Mall.

On Thursday, March 2, 2017 at approximately 1:34 pm, the Newark Police dispatch center received a call stating an armed robbery involving a handgun had just occurred inside of the Shoe Palace, located at 1074 Newpark Mall. The suspect produced a handgun at the employees of the store and stole (3) pairs of Nike Jordan Shoes. He then ran to an awaiting vehicle, which fled towards Mowry Avenue. An alert citizen provided a partial license plate to NPD officers.

NPD dispatchers aided detectives with locating the correct license plate associated with the make and model of the suspect vehicle. Due to the nature of the crime, the Southern Alameda County Major Crimes Task Force assisted with this investigation and located the vehicle as it traveled through the city of Fremont.

Officers from the Fremont Police Department along with detectives from the Major Crimes Task Force and Newark Police converged on the suspect vehicle at the intersection of Grimmer Boulevard and Yellowstone Park Drive in Fremont. One of the occupants had a handgun in his waistband. All four of the vehicle’s occupants were safely detained without incident. The firearm was later determined to be a black replica handgun. Based on all of the facts and interviews, three of the four occupants from the suspect vehicle were arrested, while the fourth was released. Further investigation by detectives led to the recovery of the stolen merchandise from the Shoe Palace.

Police are continuing to investigate this incident.
