Strong to severe thunderstorms possible this afternoon/evening - strong winds, heavy rain, lightning, possible hail
The North Brunswick Office of Emergency Management advises residents that strong to severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening as a squall line develops ahead of a strong cold front. The biggest threats will be damaging wind gusts in excess of 40-60+ miles per hour, deadly and damaging cloud-to-ground lightning and poor drainage flooding. Small to medium sized hail is also possible.
High winds may damage trees and unsecured objects, and could result in a few power outages.
As for timing today, showers and thunderstorms are forecasted during the mid-morning hours, with the worst passing to the north. Then, a stronger to potentially severe line of thunderstorms are expected to arrive between 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Following the cold frontal passage, much colder weather will arrive tomorrow with a possible clipper system bringing some light snow changing to rain on Friday.
