The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

February 23rd

0854 Hours: Officer Fredstrom contacted and arrested a 32 year old transient male for possession of a controlled substance and for an outstanding warrant. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1316 Hours: Officer Fredstrom contacted and arrested a 36 year old Newark male for his outstanding warrant. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

1317 Hours: Officer Slavazza contacted and arrested a 35 year old Newark male on his outstanding warrant. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

1601 Hours: Officer Jackman contacted and arrested 32 year old Newark female for possession of drug paraphernalia. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

1628 Hours: Officer Rivas investigated a hit and run accident at Newark Memorial High School, 39375 Cedar Boulevard. There is no suspect information at this time.

February 24th

0634 Hours: Officer Slavazza investigated a window smash auto burglary that occurred overnight at the Comfort Inn, 5977 Mowry Avenue. The loss was miscellaneous tools.

0755 Hours: Officer Posadas investigated a theft of a white Tioga motor home (California license #4KAK904) on the 6000 block of Mistflower Avenue.

0815 Hours: Officer Fredstrom contacted and arrested a 56 year old Newark male for his outstanding warrant. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

1140 Hours: Officer Rivas investigated an auto vandalism that occurred overnight on the 6300 block of Joaquin Murieta Avenue.

1423 Hours: Officer Fredstrom investigated a hit and run collision that occurred overnight near the intersection of Vinewood Street and Ravenwood Street.

1202 Hours: Officers responded to the 7600 block of Wells Avenue to investigate a possible stolen vehicle. Officer Rivas contacted and arrested a 25 year old Newark male for vehicle theft, possession of stolen property and an outstanding arrest warrant. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail. The vehicle was released to the registered owner.

1610 Hours: Officer Fredstrom investigated a hit and run collision that occurred in the Home Depot parking lot, 5401 Thornton Avenue.

1612 Hours: Officer Johnson investigated an auto burglary at the Comfort Inn, 5977 Mowry Avenue. Two windows were smashed, resulting in the loss of a computer and tools

2020 Hours: Officer Khairy investigated a single vehicle collision on Buckeye Street and determined that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and placed under arrest. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

0003 Hours: Officer Arroyo conducted a traffic stop and determined that the driver was unlicensed and driving without a required interlock device. The driver was issued a citation and released. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

February 25th

0815 Hours: Officer Germano investigated a vehicle burglary at the Double Tree Hotel, 39900 Balentine Drive. The loss was $20,000 in camera equipment.

0827 Hours: Officer Slavazza investigated a broken window at Kj’s Barber Shop, 36616 Newark Boulevard. There are no suspects at this time.

1407 Hours: Officer Taylor contacted and arrested a 25 year old transient male for shoplifting. The suspect was observed stealing merchandise by Big Lots employees, 5435 Thornton Avenue. When contacted by Officer Taylor the suspect was in possession of Big Lots merchandise. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1440 Hours: Officer Musantry contacted and arrested a 55 year old Fremont male on his outstanding warrant. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

1803 Hours: Officer Jackman investigated an auto burglary at 24 Hour Fitness, Newpark Mall. The loss was a stereo.

2224 Hours: Officer Homayoun recovered a 1997 Honda Accord on Dairy Street at Leone Street that was reported stolen out of Fremont. The vehicle was released to the registered owner.

0149 Hours: Officer Khairy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Parkshore Drive near Lake Boulevard. The driver, a 22 year old Newark male was found to be under the influence of alcohol and placed under arrest. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

0318 Hours: Officer Pacheco conducted a traffic stop on Mayhews Landing Road at Newark Boulevard. The driver, a 19 year old Newark male was found to be under the influence of alcohol and placed under arrest. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

February 26th

0906 Hours: Officer Germano contacted and arrested a 43 year old transient male for possession of drug paraphernalia and attempting to destroy evidence. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1825 Hours: Officer Pacheco investigated a “Road Rage” incident on the 37900 block of Lobelia Drive. No suspect has been identified.

0126 Hours: Upon checking an occupied vehicle on Lobelia Drive, Officer Simon contacted a 40 year old Newark female, a 35 year old Fremont female and a 29 year old Union City male. The female suspects are on active probation search clauses and were found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine. The female suspects were issued citations and all three suspects were released at the scene.

0259 Hours: Officer Losier observed a vandalized vehicle parked in front of Arteaga’s Food Center, 5524 Thornton Avenue. The owner was notified and responded to have it towed.
