On February 17, at 9:05am, Oakland Police Department officers responded to the 9500 block of Las Vegas Avenue on a report of a man armed with a rifle and shooting in the neighborhood. When officers arrived on scene, the suspect was in the street and began shooting at the officers. Officers reported the suspect was armed with a rifle and scope and immediately sought cover. The suspect continued to discharge the rifle, firing multiple times. An Oakland officer discharged his firearm, but it is unknown if the suspect was hit. Eventually the suspect was detained, transported to a local hospital with report of injuries, and is currently receiving medical attention. Officers recovered the rifle with a scope from the scene. There have been no reports of injuries to officers or community members at this time. The area of 98th Avenue and Golf Links Road remains closed to through traffic as the Oakland Police Department continues their investigation.
