This Valentine's Day Spot the Box
Valentine's Day is a great time to celebrate love with a special person in your life. It also serves as a reminder to make healthy choices and become aware of life-saving equipment in our community.
The City of Santa Clara and Santa Clara Unified School District (SCUSD) have made a conscious effort to make Automated External Defibrillators (AED) available throughout Santa Clara. Equipment and monetary donations have funded the AED programs.
An AED is a lightweight, portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses life threatening cardiac arrhythmias and is able to deliver an electric shock through the chest to the heart. This shock can stop an irregular rhythm and re-establish an effective rhythm. AED’s are often found in businesses, schools, recreation and community centers, fitness and health organizations, airplanes and airports. SCUSD has seventy (70) AED's throughout the District. In addition, the Santa Clara Police Department has five (5) AED's in patrol vehicles.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) can strike anyone, anywhere. Nearly 300,000 Americans die of SCA every year, with 15,000 of these people being children. Use of an AED can dramatically increase the survival rate. To be effective, the public has to know where these life saving devices are located. AEDSpotter is available for both iPhone and iPad.
Spot the Box! Today, look around the places you frequent - gym, work, school - and take note of where the AED's are located.
