K9 Duke Apprehends Residential Burglary Suspect Hiding Under Insulation in Attic

On February 10, 2017 at approximately 5:00pm Officers were dispatched to the area of E. 6th Avenue and Kayser Avenue for the report of a residential burglary.  A concerned citizen reported a male with a backpack had entered a recently vacated property through the basement window.  Arriving officers secured the perimeter and could hear movement from within the residence.  With the assistance of K9 Duke, officers entered the property and after an thorough search, K9 Duke located the burglary suspect, Willie Stokes of Camden hiding in the attic.  Stokes had buried himself under insulation and behind a sheetrock wall.

K9 Duke apprehended the suspect, who was taken into custody by officers without further incident.  Continued investigation led to the recovery of copper piping in his possession and also a significant amount of copper piping in the vehicle Stokes was confirmed to be operating.  Willie Stokes was processed accordingly and remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility.
Officers were able to take this suspect into custody and prevent the theft of copper piping from the residence and significant damage through the cooperation of a concerned citizen.  Had the reporting individual not taken the time to call or feel it was “not my problem”, another property owner would have suffered a significant loss and extensive damage to their property.
