Costa Mesa Police Department Conducted Traffic Operation To Reduce Driving Violations That Cause Collisions

COSTA MESA, Calif. – As part of the Costa Mesa Police Department’s (CMPD) continued commitment to keeping the streets safe and reducing preventable collisions, a Primary Collision Factor (PCF) traffic operation took place yesterday, Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, throughout the day.

The CMPD Traffic Bureau conducted the PCF operation with grant funding awarded by the California Office of Traffic Safety. The grant allows law enforcement to conduct a traffic operation focused on primary violations that contribute to and cause collisions, including distracted drivers, driving distracted while on a mobile device, driving at unsafe speeds, not completing a full stop at stop signs, failing to yield, and unsafe driving while in areas with a high volume of cyclists and pedestrians.

This operation netted 132 vehicle stops, three vehicles impounded, and 93 citations ranging from a majority for improper use of a cell phone while driving, to failing to stop or yield.
