North Brunswick Office of Emergency Management Winter Storm Advisory Message

A major winter storm will be affecting the area Thursday morning, which will bring heavy snow, gusty winds and low visibilities. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from midnight tonight until 4 p.m. Thursday for snow accumulations between 8 to 12 inches.

Any rain or mixed precipitation will change to snow between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. Very heavy, intense snow, with possible thunder and lightning, is possible between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. Snowfall rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour could make roads potentially impassable. Avoid travel if possible during this time.

Also, there may be power outages due to the weight of the snow on tree limbs and power lines.

The timing of the storm will have a major impact on the morning commute. The storm, however, is fast moving as snow will taper off quickly from west to east during midday or early afternoon. Winds of 10 to 25 miles per hour will cause some blowing and drifting snow.

The Township of North Brunswick advises residents to please move all vehicles off the streets to allow for our Public Works crews to clean the roadways. This will allow for wider paths in case of emergency traffic. Also, remember to clear your sidewalks.

Residents who live on a designated Snow Emergency street must remove their vehicle from the street. Township Police will strictly enforce this no parking ban and cars will be towed for those who do not comply. All residents are strongly urged to get all vehicles off Township roads in order for proper and efficient snow removal.

Please click on the link below for a list of snow emergency streets and partial snow emergency streets.

Please do NOT throw snow into the street when clearing your property. Township ordinance prohibits putting snow back into the roadways.

If you live near a fire hydrant, please help the Fire Department and your neighbors, by shoveling around the hydrant. This could be a life saving measure!

In case of power outages, please contact PSE&G directly at 1-800-436-7734. You can also visit their website at

Make sure that flashlights are operational with extra batteries and you have extra blankets. If you have a generator, do not use it indoors or in a garage.

The North Brunswick Office of Emergency Management will be monitoring the latest developments on the storm and will provide further updates as necessary.
