Attempted Murder Suspect Arrested

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in an attempted murder case that occurred on January 17, 2017 in the City of Goleta. In that case, a 49-year-old Goleta resident was found bleeding from the head with stab wounds at the corner of Sonoma Avenue and Calle Real. The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle.

At around 9:20 a.m. yesterday, February 2, 2017, the Sheriff’s Office received information that there was a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle in the 4200 block of Calle Real. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area and located the vehicle and the driver, 51-year-old Edward Jesus Garcia of Goleta. Garcia was suspected of being under the influence of a controlled substance and detained.

Detectives from the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Bureau responded to the scene and through further investigation, located evidence and information linking Garcia to the crime. The victim and the suspect were familiar with one another. The motivation for the attack is still under investigation. Garcia was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail for attempted murder and is being held on one million dollars bail.
