HCSO: Sheriff to Host Historic Promotional Ceremony, Introduce Command Staff

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – On Thursday, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez will host the largest promotional ceremony in the 180 year history of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s 15 member Command Staff was appointed after the Sheriff took the oath of office on January 1, 2017. In keeping with his pledge to promote talent from within the department, 11 HCSO veterans were appointed to the Command Staff.

On Thursday, 7 Lieutenants will be promoted to Captain, 9 Sergeants will be promoted to Lieutenant, 11 Deputies will be promoted to Sergeant and 1 Detention Officer will be promoted to Detention Sergeant.

Thursday’s ceremony will celebrate the collective achievements of 43 members of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office cadre. The appointments and promotions of the staff are also among the most diverse in the Sheriff’s Office history. Assistant Chief Debra Schmidt is the first female to have achieved the rank. The Sheriff’s Command Staff consists of 7 Caucasians, 5 Hispanics, 3 African Americans, and 1 Asian American.
