Alert Fairfield Officer arrests a teen with a gun...

On 1/24/17 at 3:03 p.m. an alert Fairfield Police School Resource Officer, Jerriod Mack was patrolling the vicinity of the 1100 block of Washington St. when he saw an adult male walking briskly away from a nearby apartment complex while holding a gun.  When Officer Mack approached and told him to stop, he ignored the officer and instead got into the passenger side of an awaiting car.  As Officer Mack approached the car he told the driver not to leave the scene. The driver ignored the command and fled in the car northbound on Washington Street with the person Officer Mack had seen with the gun.  A third passenger was in the back seat.

Officers responding to the Washington Street area quickly located the vehicle driving near N. Texas St. and Travis Blvd. They conducted a high-risk stop on the vehicle east of that intersection and all three occupants were detained. A search of the car revealed a loaded .40 caliber Glock pistol hidden in the glovebox.

The person Officer Mack saw holding the gun was identified as a 15-year-old Fairfield resident. His identity is withheld due to his age. He was arrested for possession of a concealed firearm in a car, possession of a loaded firearm and ammunition in public, possession of a gun within 1000 feet of a school, being a minor in possession of a firearm, and for resisting, obstructing, and delaying an officer in the performance of his duties by fleeing the scene.

The driver, Tyler Daily, a 21 year-old Fairfield resident, was arrested for resisting, obstructing, and delaying an officer in the performance of his duties, for fleeing the scene and allowing illegal possession of a firearm in a vehicle.

The third occupant of the vehicle was released without charges.
