Taxi Driver Arrested for Sexual Assaults

On December 12, 2016, the Campbell Police Department made an arrest of an individual suspected of sexually assaulting two victims. We are seeking the public’s assistance in obtaining more information about the suspect and identifying any other potential victims.

On October 29, 2016, the Campbell Police Department was alerted to a sexual assault that had occurred. The victim reported that she had been sexually assaulted after becoming intoxicated and separated from her friends while in downtown Campbell. The victim got into a taxi outside a bar and later woke up inside the taxi driver’s home while being sexually assaulted. The suspect was subsequently identified as Julio Sanchez, 30 years old of San Jose.

Surveillance video from the night of the incident assisted Campbell PD in identifying Sanchez. During the course of this investigation a second victim was identified and interviewed. The second victim disclosed information to investigators that Sanchez had sexually assaulted her as well.

Campbell Detectives obtained a warrant for Sanchez’ arrest, however, he had not returned to his home after learning of the investigation. With the assistance of the US Marshals Service, Sanchez was located and arrested in Madera, California.

Sanchez was subsequently booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for the following charges: 261(a)(2)PC, two counts of 261(a)(3)PC, 261(a)(4)PC, 289(d)PC, and 289(e)PC.

Sanchez is known to frequent downtown areas throughout the South Bay while working as a taxi cab driver. Due to the nature of the taxi cab business and Sanchez’ access to potential victims, the Campbell Police Department is asking anyone who believes they may be victims of Sanchez to contact the Campbell Police Investigations Division.

Anyone who recognizes Sanchez and has any information about this case or any other incidents is asked to call our 24-hour dispatch center at (408) 866-2101. Anonymous phone calls can be made to our Investigations Unit at (408) 871-5190. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through our free mobile application (Campbell Police Department), downloadable from the App Store or Google Play.
