NEWS RELEASE: Metro PCS Robbery (Update)

Today at approximately 1:47 PM four suspects entered the Metro PCS Store located at 1102 W. Beverly in the city of Montebello and demanded employees hand over four new cell phones.  Out of fear for their safety and lives, the employees complied with the demands.

All four suspects fled the store on foot.  While on patrol, two officers, who were in the area on patrol, saw the suspects running from the store.  The officers, not knowing a robbery just occurred, attempted to stop the individuals based on their suspicious activity.

The suspects did not stop and split up.  One of the officers was able to detain one of the suspects while the above information was relayed to police dispatch.  A perimeter was established around the area where two of the other suspects were last seen.

Montebello Police with the assistance of Monterey Park PD, South Gate Police K9, and Downey Police K9 along with LASD Air Support assisted in the search for the robbery suspects in the Park Victoria Apartments (600 block of Howard Ave.).
During the search, one suspect was apprehended when he attempted to run from a police K-9 search team.  The other outstanding suspect was not located and the search concluded.

The two suspects detained were positively identified by the Metro PCS employees as being involved in the robbery.  They were transported to the police station where they were booked and processed.

At approximately 7:25 PM, two residents in the area of the Park Victoria Apartments called police dispatch advising they saw a male subject walking northbound from the location who matched the description of our outstanding suspect.  Minutes later, officers arrived in the area and saw a male matching the description of the outstanding suspect running to the rear of a residence in the 1300 block of W. Lincoln.  A perimeter was established and LASD Air Support responded once again to assist.  While units were preparing to search, loud noises were heard in the side yard of a residence in the 600 block of N. Maple Ave. by one of our officers.  LASD Air Support while conducting their fly over noticed that a trash can was turned upside down.  While attempting to contact the residents at the location regarding their trash cans, one of the officers saw shoes sticking out from underneath the trash can.  Moments later, the suspect was found to be hiding inside the trash can and he was taken into custody.  He was later transported to the police station for further investigation.

The fourth and last suspect fled the location and was not located.

Anyone with information regarding this Robbery is encouraged the contact investigators.
