Suspicious Device - Imperial Beach

An item resembling a suspicious device in Imperial Beach turned out not to be dangerous and was possibly a weather device.

Deputies from the Imperial Beach Sheriff's Substation received a call about a suspicious device just before 8:00 a.m. on Friday, December 16th in the 900 block of Ocean Lane near the Imperial Beach Pier.

The device was described as a black cylinder about eight to ten inches tall on top of a cinder block. There were wires coming out of the cinder block.

Sheriff's Bomb/Arson along with County Hazmat and the Imperial Beach Fire Department responded to the scene. A portion of Seacoast Drive was closed for a short time as a precaution.

The device is possibly a weather device placed there to collect data on the storm. There is no threat to the public.
