**UPDATE** Operation New Normal social services sweep targets near eastside
INDIANAPOLIS - Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) and their partners help to make Operation New Normal a success.

Preliminary numbers from Operation New Normal:
1. Gleaners Food Bank provided over 300 meals that will feed a family of four for a week
2. Santa Clause met and provided toys to an estimated 450 Children
3. 200 households were visited and offered services which produced the below requests:

- Smoke detector- 20
- Utility assistance- 12
- Food & clothing- 10
- Housing and rent assistance- 4
- Code enforcement tips- 4
- Narcotics tip- 2
- Employment- 9
- Health insurance-7
- 12 people signed up at event now have health insurance
- State I.d. or driver’s license- 5
- Primary care- 3
- Transportation- 5
- Birth certificates- 2
- Legal services- 1
- Flu shots- 14
The IMPD is grateful for all the community partners that were involved in this event and look forward to future social service sweeps to help more citizens of this great city. Thank you for your ongoing support and efforts in helping to make Indianapolis a safer place to work and live!

The IMPD Behavioral Health Unit (BHU), InPAcT (Re-Entry), Immigrant Outreach Unit and Youth Services will engage residents of the neighborhood to address the social issues contributing to the cause of crime, fear of crime and poor quality of life. The CEO will work in coordination with other City agencies – Business and Neighborhood Services, Department of Metropolitan Development, Health & Hospital, IEMS and others to take an inventory of high weeds and grass, illegal trash dumping, abandoned homes, street lights and other quality of life issues that affect the area.
The IMPD Chaplain’s Office will provide liaison with area churches and clergy for faith-based interventions. Gleaners will also be on site to provide residents an opportunity to shop for a variety of food items, including some produce, at 2:30 p.m.
Other services available will include: bus tickets, on-site flu shots, scheduling of appointments for Eskenazi health care clinics, arranging shuttle service for those needing medical assistance, and rental and utility support. Santa Claus will also make an appearance to meet with children and hand out toys.
Flyers were mailed to residents prior to Tues. to let them know IMPD would be going door-to-door to offer help and provide services as needed.
The goals of the social services sweep are:
- Engage citizens in a holistic approach to solve/resolve/prevent poor QOL issues
- Offer and provide social services to citizens in need
- Conduct survey of citizens to gauge quality of IMPD service/response
- Build relationships and partnerships with community
- Receive intelligence related to current criminal activity in the area (if volunteered)
- Fix “Broken Window” issues contributing to crime and overall feeling of hopelessness
- Address needs of families with members on parole
- Provide medical assessment and services
- Secondary engagement opportunities (Employment, Social Services, Behavioral Health)
- Immigrant outreach
