Eastside High School placed on lockdown in reference to a large physical fight between students which occurred in the common area.

Eastside High School has been placed on lockdown in reference to a large physical fight which occurred shortly before noon between a large number of students in the common area of the school.

Multiple ACSO Deputies in addition to the assigned School Resource Deputies are on scene.  We can confirm that deputies have utilized Tasers and O.C. (Pepper) Spray in an effort to control the students involved in the brawl and take any suspects into custody.

ACFR is on scene and is providing basic medical attention to multiple students who were contaminated with O.C. Spray during the incident.  One student will be transported to UF Health at Shands for additional medical treatment as a precaution for striking his head as he fell to the ground.

At least three deputies also sustained minor injuries in the incident and are also being treated on scene by ACFR.  The cause of the altercations are under investigation and arrests are likely to follow.

Parents are asked not to come to the school at this time and can contact the Alachua County School Board Public Information Office for additional information regarding your student.
