Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Parks Bureau Deputies, Conduct Abandoned Debris Clean-Up Operation on the Whittier Narrows Nature Center property.
Residents in the area of the Whittier Narrows Nature Center, along with local joggers have expressed their concerns regarding the trash and encampments built up in the area of the property southeast of Durfee Avenue and Rosemead Boulevard along hiking trails, in the City of South El Monte, that’s governed by the County of Los Angeles Parks and Recreation.
During the previous month, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Parks Bureau deputies made contact with more than a twenty homeless individuals living in the area, joined by homeless shelter outreach workers. Offers were made for shelter, medical and mental health treatment, and other opportunities to relocate to an environment safer for both the homeless and the nearby community.
On Tuesday, December 6, 2016, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Parks Bureau and Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), responded to the Whittier Narrows Nature Center property, in an effort to remove abandoned debris.
Workers with the Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation gathered the debris and collected trash left by the homeless.
Whittier Narrows Nature Center is located at 1000 Durfee, South El Monte.
