Press Release: Apartment Structure Fire, 600 block of Central Av, Alameda

Today, at 5:56 pm, Alameda Fire responded to reports of smoke coming from an apartment building on the 600 block of Central Avenue. Arriving fire crews found a working fire on the first floor of a two-story, six-unit apartment building.

Crews stretched a pre-connected hose line and made entry into the building. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire, with complete extinguishment at 6:12 pm.

Fire damage was confined to one unit. There was smoke damage to two other units. There was one reported injury to an adult female occupant (non-life threatening), who was walked out of an adjacent unit by firefighters.  She was transported to a local hospital.  There were no other reported injuries. A total of 20 firefighters responded.

The cause was determined to be combustible items placed on top of a floor furnace.  Displaced occupants of the involved unit will be staying with family members.
