Advisory

Rash of Laundry Room Burglaries

MEDIA RELEASE

WHAT: Laundry Room Burglaries

WHERE: City of San Luis Obispo

WHEN: November 29, 2016

DEPARTMENT CONTACT: Lieutenant John Bledsoe

On Monday November 28, 2016 at approximately 10:23 AM, the San Luis Obispo Police Department responded to two separate apartment complexes in the 2800 and 2900 blocks of Augusta for the reports of burglaries to the laundry rooms. In both these incidents the unknown suspect(s) forced entry into the laundry rooms and pried open the coin boxes to the washers and dryers and removed an undisclosed amount of quarters.

On Tuesday November 29, 2016 San Luis Obispo Police also responded to an apartment complex in the 700 block of Johnson for the report of a burglary. The investigation revealed, sometime during the nighttime hours, unknown suspect(s) forced entry into the laundry room of the complex. The suspect(s) then forced open the locks on all 18 machines in the laundry room and removed an undisclosed dollar amount of quarters.

The city of San Luis Obispo has experienced approximately 15 laundry room burglaries since January 2014. It is our experience that many of the people involved in these types of crimes are repeat offenders. In September 2014 San Luis Obispo Police arrested a subject who was believed to responsible for at least 5 of these laundry room burglaries. SLO PD Detectives are currently working with other San Luis Obispo County Law Enforcement agencies to identify the suspects responsible for these crimes. The Arroyo Grande Police Department recently took a similar report where a video camera captured the image of the suspect responsible for their burglary.

We are asking anyone who has information as to the identity of the suspect in this photograph, or the person(s) responsible for the burglaries in the City of San Luis Obispo, to contact their appropriate law enforcement agency or Crime Stoppers to help in solving these crimes.

On November 21st 2016, this suspect forced entry into an apartment complex laundry room in the City of Arroyo Grande, accessed the washing machines, and stole an undisclosed dollar amount in quarters. Please help identify and contact Arroyo Grande PD Officer J. Smith with
any information.
