Vehicle Burglary Suspects In Custody
On Thursday, 11/17/16 around 4pm Montebello Police Officers responded to the Quiet Cannon Golf Course during an auto burglary in progress. The crime was observed by an off-duty Montebello Police Sergeant. Two suspects later identified as 37 year old Juan Manuel Gonzalez and 30 year old Arturo Avila, were arrested and property from the victim’s car was recovered and returned. Later that afternoon, Montebello Detectives conducted two separate searches at residences belonging to the suspects in the city of East Los Angeles.
An overwhelming amount of stolen property amounting to approximately $50,000.00 was located during this investigation. A portion of the property was traced back to several other auto burglaries that had occurred at the Quiet Cannon, Mountain Meadows Golf Course in the city of Pomona and Big League Dreams in the city of Chino Hills. Montebello Detectives will be conducting extensive follow-up to identify other victims and return the additional property to the owners. On 11/21/2016, Detective Valle filed this case in the Los Angeles Superior Court. Both suspects were charged with one count of felony burglary and Avila was additionally charged with one count of possession of stolen property. Suspect Gonzalez has prior convictions for burglary, disobeying a police officer and assault with a deadly weapon. Suspect Avila has prior convictions for domestic violence and battery.
The suspects utilized screw drivers to punch the door locks of the victims vehicles in order to gain entry.
