Advisory
Snow Reminder
The City of Oneonta reminds residents and visitors of the following rules that are in effect for the winter months:
- Vehicles must not be left parked on any city street during a snowstorm or after a snowfall of 2½ inches or more. Residents must wait until the Department of Public Works has cleared the streets of snow before parking on the streets.
- Vehicles left on the street after a 2½-inch snowfall may be towed and/or ticketed. The cost of towing will be billed to the vehicle owner.
- Residential and commercial building owners must remove snow and ice from the full width of their sidewalks before 9 a.m., even after a light snowfall.
- If the ice cannot be removed without sidewalk damage, it must then be covered with sand or some other gritty material, not salt.
- Shoveling or plowing snow into the streets is prohibited, and snow should not be put on neighboring property without permission from the owner.
- If a fire hydrant is located adjacent to your property, please maintain a 2 foot clear area around it.
- Sidewalks not cleared by owners will be cleared by contractors hired by the city. The city’s cost plus 50 percent will be billed to the property owner.
